Sex Offender Registry & Compliance
The Barbour County Sheriff’s Office registers and monitors sex offenders who live, work, or attend school in Barbour County, as required by the Alabama Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Act (Code of Alabama §15-20A). This page helps residents search the registry, sign up for alerts, and report concerns. It also explains how registrants meet their obligations.

Sign up through OffenderWatch to receive a free email when a registered offender moves near an address you choose, such as your home, your child’s school, or a relative’s house. On the Barbour County page, select the option to register for alerts.
For Registrants
Alabama law requires registered offenders to appear in person at the Sheriff’s Office to register and to verify their information on schedule. Changes to your residence, employment, vehicles, or online identifiers must also be reported as the law requires.

What Alabama Law Restricts

- Adult sex offenders generally may not live or work within 2,000 feet of a school or childcare facility.
- Offenders convicted of crimes against children under 12 may not loiter within 500 feet of a school, childcare facility, playground, park, athletic field, or other business whose main purpose is serving minors.
- Most adult sex offenders may not live with a minor, with limited exceptions for certain immediate family members.
