The Barbour County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) is our tactical unit. Similar to a SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) or SERT (Special Emergency Response Team) unit, SRT is made up of deputies who are selected and trained for the highest-risk calls, the ones that go beyond what a single patrol deputy should handle alone.
What a Special Response Team does
Teams like SRT are called in when a situation needs more people, more training and a coordinated plan, such as:
- Serving high-risk search and arrest warrants
- Responding to armed or barricaded suspects
- Searching for dangerous fugitives
- Supporting deputies and partner agencies during major incidents
Training to bring everyone home safe
Tactical work is only as good as the training behind it. SRT members train together in firearms, tactics and team movement so that when a call comes, they can resolve it as safely as possible for residents, deputies and everyone involved. The photos here are from SRT training this summer.
