Our commitment
The Barbour County Sheriff’s Office is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard required of state and local governments under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
What we have done
- Built the site to work with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
- Added text descriptions (alt text) to meaningful images.
- Used a clear heading structure on every page, with one main heading.
- Chosen text and button colors that meet contrast requirements.
- Designed pages to work on phones and when zoomed to 200%.
- Labeled form fields and added a “Skip to main content” link.
Known limitations
- Some forms are currently scanned PDF documents (such as the pistol permit and job applications) and may not be readable by screen readers. We are working to replace them with accessible versions. Until then, call us and we will help you complete the form or provide it in another format.
- Some services we link to — including the inmate roster, permit renewal, video visitation, commissary deposits, the sex offender registries, and embedded maps — are run by other organizations. We have asked these providers to meet accessibility standards, but we do not control their sites.
